With the role of technology playing a bigger role in bingo over recent years, it has been no surprise that the average age of players has been decreasing. Online bingo and hand-held units at bingo clubs have no doubt been more attractive to younger bingo fans than those that have been playing on tickets for many years. The game of bingo over the last 5 years has become increasingly popular with a younger generation, destroying the idea that bingo is just for grannies. According to Cherry Hosking, company secretary of the Bingo Association, in this day and age the game now attracts a broader demographic and the specialist claimed this shows it is "not an old person's game". She noted that even online bingo has a social element because of the use of chat rooms. "It offers a social game as everyone is on the internet now. Although it is lucrative, it is still on the lower scale of the gambling spectrum, [so] it is socially acceptable," Ms Hosking remarked.
