A student who was playing bingo for the first time has scooped a massive prize of £27,865 after winning a jackpot event.

According to media reports the 21-year-old played the Mecca Bingo's national draw costing just £2. The lucky winner was among around 100,000 other people taking part.

Chris Walker, General Manager at the Mecca Club, claimed that had had enquiries from numerous other students dreaming of being the next lucky winner. He added the winner was a student in his third year of a science degree at the Southampton University and could not believe his good fortune

"It was a fantastic atmosphere, full of excitement – even the bingo caller couldn't stop shaking because she'd never awarded that amount to anyone," he observed.

Mr Walker suggested the winner intends to use the winnings to pay for another course and to save part of it for a deposit towards his first house.
