Rank Group, the parent company of Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos has been awarded a prestigious international health and safety accolade. To be able to apply for the British Safety Council Sword of Honour award 2010, companies have to achieve the British Safety Council ‘5 Star’ grade.

Each year only 40 Swords are awarded worldwide and Mecca Bingo is the only leisure company to receive this award in the UK. Winning the award signifies the company as having first class health and safety management systems for employees and customers.

Mecca Crewe’s general manager Gill Clark commented: “To be one of only 40 companies achieving this status worldwide is a fantastic achievement and we are all very proud of ourselves.

“We put the health and safety of both our customers and team members first so it’s great to have this recognised and rewarded.”

The Sword of Honour was officially presented at a luncheon ceremony in London and the Director of Security for Rank, John Butler and the Health and Safety Manager Brian Duffin accepted the award.
