It has been reported that John Penrose the Tourism Minister could be an asset to bingo over the coming year as some bingo club are still seeing declining admissions. The new Gambling Act in 2005 came at a difficult time for the industry with the smoking ban following shortly after.

It outlawed the random gambling machines which generally had £2 stakes and £500 jackpots. The machines did not have to be licensed and no VAT was payable on the profits as the machines exploited a loophole in the law.

John Penrose has already shown his support for the industry which he claims plays an important role in the economy of seaside resorts and other towns and cities throughout the UK. The industry is now hopeful that changes will be introduced to the Gambling Act early next year to prevent further bingo clubs from closing their doors.

Penrose has been working hard in relation to consultation to future changes.
