A former Gala Bingo maybe converted into a 24-hour drinking venue where boxing and wrestling matches are held. Notices of the plans were posted on the gambling establishment in Richmond Road, Kingston. The notice seeks that the building now named as the Kingston Arena, is applying for permission for indoor sporting events, performance of plays, dancing, boxing or wrestling 24 hours a day. The application has been by Malcolm Farquharson. Local residents are concerned about the plans and had gathered over 800 signatures against previous plans which circulated last spring to turn grade II listed building into a nightclub. It is expected this recent proposal will raise further concerns with the locals. Bernadette Valleley from the Richmond Road Residents' Association commented: “We are angry they would consider a 24 hour alcohol licence in a residential area. “It's completely upsetting they have ignored our requests for a meeting, which we have asked for in writing, and we have yet to see credible plans for what this means. “We love this area. We will fight this tooth and nail.”
