John Wilkinson a cancer sufferer has received a platinum award from Macmillan cancer charity for devoting his time to raising funds for charity. Since beating the disease he has pledged to raise as much as possible and over the last 34 years has reached a staggering £84,000 with bingo being a big part of the effort. At 74 years old he has no plans to take it easy and has set his sights on reaching the £100,000 mark and thanks the generosity of the people in West Cumbria for helping to make his aims achievable. "I'm delighted to have been able to help other people with the work I have done, but a lot of credit must be given to the people of this area," Mr Wilkinson told a reported. Last year Wilkinson raised £13,000 working with his sister-in-law Phyllis Barnes, with playing bingo forming a big part of their efforts. "We did raffles and bingo, which raised £1,550. We were delighted and we'll continue to do more," she explained.
