Mecca Burglars Lucky Day

A man from Exeter who was charged with burglary has hit it lucky with Mecca Bingo after local police bungled the evidence.

The case was dismissed as the police did not provide the prosecution with the correct evidence and Darren Gibbons and the other four people who were arrested over the incident have avoided criminal charges. Gibbons from Wonford had been charged with stealing £4,494.75 from gaming machines at his local Mecca Bingo club.

Police say they have launched an inquiry into what they called a “breakdown in communication.”

The general manager at Mecca Bingo, Alan Forshaw, commented: “I’m incredibly disappointed that the system has let us down. It seems like technicalities have prevented our day in court.”
