Bingo Soaring Ahead

While is has been claimed less people in the UK are playing online poker than in previous years the popularity of bingo both online and in clubs is increasing. Both land based bingo operators and online bingo operators are reported in growth for the back end of 2010 and the start of 2011.

With online bingo sites being launched every month, many experts had predicted that the number of online bingo players would slow this year. They figured it would only be a matter of time, especially with the recession, that online bingo would reach its peak and become just another passing trend.

It appears however this is not to be the case and while some bingo sites and land based clubs have closed as they cannot compete with the stronger operators or in the case of land based clubs the legislation has bought around adverse effects the closures are in the minority.

It has been reported that online bingo sites could see further growth as they tap into the market of bingo players that play at bingo clubs but not currently online. It is also claimed that while some club based bingo players have tried playing online, many have not. The reality, however, is that while some bingo players may cross between the different bingo options generally bingo players will prefer either playing online or at bingo clubs and will where the choice exist they will stick to their favoured option. Both forms of bingo are actually good for each other as they do raise awareness to the game and there is an emphasise of attracting younger players.

It is looking like a good year for bingo, but other forms of gambling haven’t been as lucky. Online poker sites reported a decrease in players and revenues last year and online casinos are stagnant.

Bingo clubs have certainly had their share of hardships with the smoking ban and tax legislation which has resulted in admissions plummeting in recent years. The bad news seems to be behind land based bingo clubs; however this may be the last year of growth for online operators. There is significant pressure on the UK government to review the tax structure which online gambling operators are taking advantage of by being based offshore.
