There have been renewed hopes for the development of a former bingo club in Cambridge. The No Saints club chain wanted to convert the site to a burlesque club but local police objected to it having an alcohol and entertainment licence. The license was subsequently rejected in January by Cambridge City Council. Police claimed the former Gala Bingo club was in a ‘cumulative impact zone’, which imposes tight controls on drink sales because of high levels of disorder. The sister company of No Saints has submitted the latest application which will also included community events to be held there free. The new application, submitted on May 3, asks for permission to open from 10am-12.30am Mondays to Saturdays and noon-12.30am on Sundays, instead of 2am as in the previous request. It states: “It is principally a live music venue aimed at the aged 30 and over market with some classic acts, for example proposed within the next two months in Birmingham are Elkie Brooks and Fairport Convention. “It is intended to use the facility during the day and as a benefit to the local community, which on at least two occasions per month would be provided free of charge.” Objections must be submitted by the 1st June 2011
