Bingo players at the Mecca Bingo club in Blyth Valley were recently visited by the Labour MP, who met both the staff and customers at the club and then joined them for a game of bingo. MP Ronnie Campbell has his own ties to the club, which was the former Roxy Ballroom, where Mr Campbell used to go dancing. "As someone who knows how important bingo is to my community, I’m delighted to be able to visit Mecca Blyth. I support bingo because it offers a fun way for people in my community to spend time together in an inclusive environment," Mr Campbell told the local newspaper. "I have great memories of driving my mother to her beloved weekly bingo game, and I'm pleased to see that bingo is still a big draw for my constituents. The club and its staff are first class - bingo desperately needs a fairer deal on tax than it currently gets," he added. The MP is asking for the bingo industry to get a "fairer deal" in relation to taxation. Bingo clubs are popular places for politicians to show their faces in attempts to gain votes, unfortunately when it comes to actually voting on bingo tax it seems that sitting in line with party views is more important than supporting those that have voted for them.
