Firefighters tackled a blaze at the former bingo club in Fountainbridge yesterday. A number of small fires broke out inside the disused building just before 6pm and it took fire crews around 20 minutes to gain entry to the former Mecca Bingo site. Firemen used angle grinders to get inside by which time the fires had burnt out. What caused the fires is still unclear, but reports suggest there was nobody inside at the time of the incident. A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “The biggest difficulty was getting into the building.” The Mecca Bingo Hall on Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, closed in 2006. The building previously served as a dance hall. It was known as the Palais de Danse and was open from the 1920's to the 1960's.
