One of the former Gala Bingo clubs which also spent times a an old cinema may become if a place of worship if the council support the application. The landmark, Grade II listed building in Woolwich first opened its doors in 1937 under the Granada Cinema brand and has since been converted to a cinema which was operated by Gala Bingo until recent years. The Christ Faith Tabernacle, which has a mixed congregation attracting many form the African and Caribbean communities, has made an application to change the site use to a place of worship. While some of the furnishings would be removed from the site the application details no major alterations. An application has been made to Greenwich Council who are expected to make a decision next month. Comments on a local news forum suggest that locals in the area are not supportive of another site being used as a place of worship. The former Gala Bingo club is already neighbours to the New Wine Church which was a former cinema.
