The Mecca Bingo staff at the club in Leith have raised £350 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity as part of the Mecca 50/50 Challenge. The bingo giant gave teams of their staff at bingo clubs throughout the UK £50 and 50 hours to raise as much money for the charity as they could.

The unique charity drive is not only testing the business skills of its teams but also providing a big boost for the charity, which Mecca have committed to raising funds for over the last couple of years. The 50/50 Challenge concept is also part of the company 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The fundraising at the Leith club in included holding two dress-down days that has seen staff pay £1 to take part, STV reported. Customers were also able to vote which bingo staff should enjoy having a jug of custard poured all over them.

Fiona Busby, community fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said that the staff had all done really well with their fundraising efforts and they should be really proud of themselves.

For every £20 that Mecca raises for the charity, one hours nursing care will be provided for those that are terminally ill.

Mecca is running fundraising bingo games at its online site, where it donates some money for each ticket sold on games in the first week of the month.
