The Hippodrome Bingo club in Bishop Auckland which has more than 10,000 members is hoping to reopen before Easter having been forced to close follow a major water accident which destroyed the club. While the unprecedented accident has left local bingo players with no where to play their favourite game, the club management are looking forward to a grand re-opening and inviting members back to the club.

Members can see the damage to the club in the photos available on the clubs Facebook page by searching for Hippodrome Bingo. All members that are currently registered at the club will be contact a few weeks before the re-opening with a special VIP invite to see their new bingo. For bingo fans that are not already members of Hippodrome Bingo but would like to join and receive information you can email me your details to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Hippodrome Bingo was victim of the accident at the end of November. It is believed that the local water board were carrying out work and had shut off several mains water pipes. When the water was turned back on it has been suggested that a tap was turned on that had not been used for many years. The bingo club has two levels and staff became aware sometime later prior to the club opening that water was running down the walls from the upper level. The water had built up within the structure and it wasn’t long before parts of the ceiling and walls started coming away. After a quick investigation the staff spoke to the workman outside and the water mains were isolated. It has not been confirmed yet exactly how the accident happened or who was responsible.

The building was closed as insurance investigators were called in to the site which was drenched in dirty water. The building was declared as unsafe in its current state due the fact that parts of ceiling keep dropping and significant damage was done to the electrics.

A hotline has been set up for bingo customer to keep them updated of the progress. You can text bingo to 88802.
