It seems that the Irish authorities are not too keen on bingo playing at the moment after a bingo club in Cork was raided a second time in a matter of months. Owners have confirmed that the local police, the Gardai, enter the premises to carry out a search and seizure search on its opening gala night on Sunday.

While 300 bingo players enjoyed a session of bingo at the Rock Bingo Centre in Togher, Cork the gardai were in site seizing bingo books and paperwork relating to gaming activities. The bingo session had only been running for 15 minutes on New Year's Day when the authorities turned up. It is reported that the gardai had been granted a warrant in relation to concerns relating to the validity of the license for the evening bingo games.

Owners of the bingo club insist that all activities were conducted in a legal manner and are confident the situation will be resolved. The Rock Bingo club had been set open on November 1st when gardaí arrived with a search warrant and the business was closed. However, the High Court declared the operation to be a lawful enterprise at the start of December.

The legislation to which the bingo club must operate states that is mustwork with beneficiary partners, which can include licence-holding charities and non-profit organisations.
