Following on from our story of a mother that won the world's biggest bingo jackpot losing her home, it has now been reported that she is facing bankruptcy. The former cleaner, Soroya Lowell, won just under £1.2 million less than four years ago and has managed to go from a millionaire to joining a debt relief program. The local council have applied to the Scottish court in relation to unpaid council tax just days after the Bank of Scotland was given permission to seize her £150,000 house. The 40-year-old mother and husband Frankie owe £13,214. The council claim that Soraya owes £6526 and Frankie owes £6688. In addition they expect each of the parties to pay £381 for the legal expenses. The case was deferred until next month after the couple claimed that they were working to find away of dealing with their debts. Soraya won the life changing amount of money in March 2008 when she won £1,167,795 on the national game at the Club 3000 bingo hall in Coatbridge. The lucky winner split the money with her bingo pal and neighbour, Agnes O'Neil, who she had an agreement with. At the time she said: “A deal’s a deal. I’d never go back on it.” Agnes had added: “There wouldn’t have been any malice from me if Soraya had decided to keep the money, but she insisted. “She’s just brilliant. I don’t keep well and she does absolutely everything for me.” Agnes passed away at the age of 68 just two months of receiving the money. Soraya and Frankie purchased a new home in Hamilton a year after the big win but have had to move back into their old council house after failing to pay the mortgage. Soraya also splashed out on an ice cream van with her winnings, but reports claim its licence expired in October last year. The court case was suspended following the outcome of an application by Soraya and Frankie to join a debt arrangement scheme.
