Couples looking to get married could soon be able to add a bingo club to the list of potential venues. Cosmo Bingo in Stalybridge is looking get a unique license for wedding ceremonies. The club managers claim a number of hen parties already choose to use the club as part of their plans and as such believe the bingo club would make an ideal venue for the big day.

A bingo session would make an ideal ‘austerity’ wedding party and the club manager, Keith Lee, added: "It certainly would be a wedding with a difference.

"We can tailor it to provide an area for bingo tables for guests or they can go down to the games room.

"We already get plenty of hen parties coming in here because they like to start the night by coming to the bingo.

"We would be cheaper than the bigger venues, or a big country house."

If the council was to support any licensing application it would add credibility to the town’s ‘StalyVegas’ nickname, in its mix of gambling and weddings.

Keith added: "Somebody down south has done it, but not up here, so we thought ‘why not?’.

"Cosmo has been the catalyst for so many romances over the years, this seems the perfect step for us. Our members love the club and love playing bingo so we feel it will make the perfect space for a real StalyVegas-style wedding."

In order for the club to hold marriage ceremonies it would have to make an application toTameside council and allow inspections by the registrar and health and safety workers.

The club would also have to ensure it had an interview room for brides and grooms and they would have to hide any bars in the main wedding area. The club says it plans to us an upstairs room. If an application is submitted without delay the bingo club could go ahead with its plans within as little as four weeks time.
