At 2.30pm today, the amendments to the bingo duty increase in the latest budget was debated in The Houses of Commons in the Main Chamber. Mr Stuart Hosie MP delivered the third reading amendment number 4.
Powerful arguments were put forward by many members from all sides of the house including labour MP Dari Taylor for Stockton South saying she will vote against her own Government and saying" I do not do that lightly". She went on to say "I am asking my bench to think again" and to reconsider this would have the support of the whole house. The Tory party had challenged the government on the key elements affecting bingo tax but when pressed by independent MP for Castle Point Bob Spink on their policy, the Tory MP Mr Peter Bone replied "I cannot answer that question as I am merely a back bencher" However, the Government obviously had the whips out as the amendment was voted down much to the disappointment of the bingo industry.
