Gala Bingo, the UK's largest bingo hall operator is considering the closures of 6 bingo clubs and the shedding of 200 jobs due to the smoking ban and recent poor trading results, Gala is now struggling to service its £8.25 billion worth of debt.
The recent tax hike announced in the budget has forced Gala to review it current financial standing whilst the banks are refusing to hand over any more funds for investment. It is also believed that Gala are considering the sale of other clubs in their bingo estate some speculators predicting between 40-50 bingo halls. In contrast, a recent visit to Mecca Bingo in Beeston by the Bingo Supermarket team highlighted the new club and concept are achieving higher than expected trading results and they are seeing around 4500 admissions a week. A spokesperson for Mecca Bingo said they had predicted and based their business model on producing around 3000 admissions a week, so the concept will be brought into other bingo clubs within the Mecca Bingo estate.
