A report featured in The Daily Mail told how Mecca Bingo player, Rose Clemson, 76 and her husband have been barred from the 102 bingo clubs in the UK. Rose Clemson is pictured holding a letter confirming the action taken and claims that the reason for being barred was down to an isolated incident that involved her arranging a trip to a rival bingo club nearby for the local Mecca Bingo Players.

Mecca bingo have said they cannot comment on individual cases but will confirm the ban has been enforced and they stand by the decision which was made.  Bingo Supermarket have been in contact with the Mecca Bingo in Chester and the manager was unavailable for comment but can confirm that Mecca did not over react and the press report was not concise and did not reflect a true perspective on the reason for the action taken.

Mrs Clemson has also indicated she may take legal action against the club and will attempt to get the decision overturned, however as Mecca is a private commercial club and not run by a committee, Mecca Bingo have the right to decide who enters any of the clubs they operate and are not at liberty to even give a reason if they decide not to allow a person entry.

Rose Clemson did accept the fact she was going around the club to arrange a trip to a rival bingo club. Although there is more to this incident than meets the eye, it is still understandable that Mecca should not allow members to walk around the club whipping up support to take their customers to a rival bingo club.  At the very least Rose Clemson could have asked permission to organise such a trip and then respect the decision of the Bingo Manager.

Rose Clemson is clearly appalled and upset by the decision but it may not have come as a surprise.  Perhaps an apology for the misunderstanding on her part would not go a miss and a polite letter asking to reinstate her membership.  Approcahing the local newspaper and claiming victimisation could be perceived as provocative.

Bingo Supermarket have been in touch with Mecca Bingo and to our surprise this incident started over a year ago.
