House of Commons Bingo Tax Debate Industry Response
Friday, 06 November 2009 17:09

The issue of bingo was raised in the House of Commons yesterday. Key players in the bingo industry have now time to digest the debate and are now feeling optimistic that the door is being opened for change.

Although the government blamed the industry for the recent tax change and their figures suggested the bingo industry would be better off, the government indicated change may happen if the figures supplied by the industry suggest the recent tax change is detrimental to the bingo industry some changes may occur. The industry is feeling optimistic that when new figures are been produced this will prove that 22% for the industry is too high and putting it at risk.

The industry have been waiting eagerly for a positive respond from the House of Commons and this is a step in the right direction. The Government are recognising the challenges faced in the bingo industry such as greater competition in the wider leisure sector. The Government are continuing to engage with the bingo industry about the state of the sector and the impact of taxation.
