The Government today announced in the House during the pre-budget speach by Alistair Darling that bingo tax is to be reduced from 22 percent to 20 percent. The announcement was delivered at around 12:45 pm this afternoon.
Independent operator, Roger Cooper, has said "the move is a step in the right direction but still cannot understand why it was not cut to 15 percent in line with the rest of the gambling industry" The Chancellor commented that the announcement was a popular measure as positive cheers were heard from back-benchers. The bingo industry, however is still reeling from the 22 percent tax announced earlier this year and they are still awaiting details of when the new tax rate will take effect. The recent protests in London and the persistent lobbying of the bingo industry to local MPs has certainly prompted the Government to re-consider the recent tax rise. Bingo Supermarket will continue to support the bingo industry in achieving a fair and equitable tax structure and further details and responses from the industry will be reported tomorrow.
