Bingo clubs in the UK generally finished the week on a high when the weather conditions improved and the bingo customers returned. The fear for land based bingo operators was that players may have chosen to migrate to online bingo when they became housebound during the snow falls.
However, many clubs last week reported a higher than expected turn out with week on week admissions up on the same week last year. The industry has been hit hard in the last couple of years, but land based bingo is set to make a real comeback.
The recent poor performance of bingo clubs was due to competition form unregulated and low tax oppostition from off shore online bingo games, an increase in taxation and most recently the smow. The government has since announced a lower taxation for bingo operators, the snow has melted and the industry is looking forward to seeing new legislation been brought in to tighten up on online bingo operators in an attempt to level out the playing field.
Meanwhile online is still as aggressive as ever with new online bingo operators entering the market whilst some of the larger established sites interested in expansion are looking for opportunities in European markets and feel that areas such as Spain still have huge potential. |
