Nintendo to Enter the World of Bingo
Sunday, 09 May 2010 20:58

Nintendo's has announced that it will be releasing a new party game, the first party addition since 2007's Mario Party 8.

The announcement was made at an investor meeting, President of Nintentdo Satoru Iwata said the game is, as the name might suggest, a collection of party games and he expects it to be a "major title" for the company this year. In addition to a number of of game modes the Teiban Party mode is playable by up to 4 players and includes the likes of Bingo, Roulette, and a number of other similar games.

With the wireless Wii Remotes the possibilities are endless. It will be interesting to see whether or not it has any effect on online bingo. Sceptics will suggest that online bingo is unlikely to be affected and that Nintendo has no experience in such markets. In addition the game will only be for fun. But ask yourself how much experience did Nintendo have in Bowling, Tennis or Go-Karting. In fact who would have thought you can keep fit on a games console. Forget the Wii Fit, try the boxing for 30 minutes and you will know you have burnt off some serious calories!!

Anyway I am pretty sure that more people play Wii Bowling, Tennis and Mario Kart each week than there are people that do it for real. Because of the way you interact with the games it attracts people of all ages and it brings extra dimensions to online games. As such I wouldn't put anything past Nintendo. While it is unlikely to enter the world of bingo as we know it I have a feeling we may end up learning a few things from maybe the 2nd or 3rd release of such games to the Wii. And if nothing else, if they have bingo with an online version, and a new market full of players that are enjoying the game, how good would that be for the industry. There will be a ready made market to tap into.

About the Wii Experience

Wireless and motion-sensitive, the Wii Remote offers an intuitive, natural way to play games. The ergonomic controller plays into the conventional motions you make everyday. When you hit a drum, swing a tennis racket or swing a bat; why should you have to press a button to replicate these things? With the Wii Remote, you can use everyday motions to help make you the centre of the game. The Wii console makes you feel less like a player and more like you're in the game.
