New Bingo Club Planned For Halifax
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 13:54

It was reported in the Halifax Evening Courier that work began on a £50 million redevelopment of Broad Street in Halifax. While initially most of the work will involve underground surveys, over the coming weeks 150 workmen and machines will be working on the site. The project was first discussed 16 years ago but has had ongoing issues that have delayed the plans. The development will be completed next year and will be built by Marshall Construction, of Elland.

It is reported in the paper that as a result of the development Halifax will have a multi-screen cinema, bowling alley, bingo hall, cafes and restaurants and a hotel. There was no mention which bingo operator was looking to operate the site and in the current climate there has only been Mecca Bingo that has risked a new build. Other operators such as Seldis Cooper are expanding and have been in discussions with buying new clubs but have not shown any interest in new builds. Gala and Top Ten Bingo clearly have ongoing financial issues and it is unlikely they would be in the running.

No doubt five plus years ago there would have been a handful of operators bidding for the site.
