A warning is being sent out to would be criminals by the bingo industry following an attempted robbery this morning. The Majestic Bingo Club in Worcester was attacked by a gang of youths in the early hours of the morning. Due to the advanced alarm systems, CCTV and reinforced doors and windows two of the group were arrested before they even managed to gain entry to the premises. Police have confirmed that 5 youths were involved in the foiled robbery. The youths had broken a rear window without realising that behind the window were metal bars. They then turned there attention to one of the fire exit doors. These were reinforced preventing the youths from gaining access to the building. The alarm system which is connected directly to the police station resulted in a patrol car which was nearby being at the premises shortly after the attacks began. The police officers could see the youths trying to break into the building and as the police car approached the scene the youths turned and fled the scene. Two of them were detained shortly after and have been taken into custody. The club owners were informed and have begun investigating the CCTV to aid the police. Forensics have been on the scene this morning and are confident that that the remaining 3 youths will be caught. A manager within the company, who wished not to be named, added: “The company takes security within its bingo clubs very seriously and we are only to aware that given the recession and the proposed cutbacks attempts like this are going to happen more frequently. Would be robbers see bingo clubs as easy targets especially as many bingo clubs may be housed in older buildings or appear low tech from the outside.” “The majority of bingo clubs have reinforced doors, CCTV, police linked alarm systems and safes that are used in banks. Anyone attempting to break into a bingo club is asking to be locked up”.
