People in Peterborough are being warned about a bingo card that is being circulating in a some what concerning market scam. The card which is delivered in the mail features a bingo game and the promise of big prizes. It is reported that the odds of winning on the bingo cards are fairly good, but anti-fraud spokespeople claimed it isn’t a scam and isn’t illegal. "This is a form of marketing that is definitely buyer beware," claimed Daniel Williams. The so called "Winners" are obliged to agree to an in-home demonstration of items like expensive vacuum cleaners or air purifiers, Williams added. The cards are designed in such away that bingo players may think they have won a big prize and around 90% of those taking part will win a prize, but the majority of times the prize is different to what the player thinks. One prize that was fairly common was flights to Hawaii — however these were subject to the "winners" paying for at least one week’s accommodation at a holiday resort designated by the company providing the flights. It was reported that the phone number advertised on the bingo cards that are being circulated around Peterborough has been disconnected. Fears are that with non traditional bingo increasing so quickly, immoral marketing companies are using the game to ‘trick’ people into parting with their money. The number listed on the bingo cards circulating in Peterborough has been disconnected.
