We spoke to managers across the company today and the results suggest that the bingo industry suffered on average an 18 percent decline in admissions this weekend as the snowy weather took its toll. Clubs in the Northeast seemed to be hit the hardest with some clubs suffering declines of close to 30 percent. Bingo clubs in the London area were the least affected. We spoke to 24 managers from 5 different land based bingo operators. Most of the managers seemed rather concerned at how early we were seeing such harsh weather conditions. The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for eastern and central Scotland, and eastern England from the Borders down to the East Midlands. The BBC are warning that there is further weather warnings of more to come on Monday and Tuesday, with eastern counties again the most at risk. BBC weather forecaster Liam Dutton added: "One thing that will be new on Monday is the wind. "It will be really quite strong, so significant wind chill will be an issue. Even where there isn't new snow, what's there already will be blown about and roads that have been cleared could be covered up again. "Towards the middle part of the week we could also start seeing snow in places that haven't had any up to now like the south east of England." Drivers in the worst-hit areas are being asked to consider whether their journeys are really necessary and, if they do venture out, to take extra care. Bingo club are likely to see further declines in weekly admissions this week. Online bingo operators may think that Christmas has indeed come early.
