J D Wetherspoon has axed plans to convert a bingo club into a further outlet in its pub chain. Initially the company had purchased the former bingo club in Cambuslang with development plans. Planning permission was granted and both the residents and the council were supportive of the idea of the building receiving some much needed investment. Two years ago in September J D Wetherspoon lodged an application with South Lanarkshire Council, to convert the former Savoy bingo hall, at 52-58 Main Street, into a licensed premises. The local authority granted permissions but the pub giant never started work on the premises. A spokesman at Wetherspoon’s commented: “We can confirm that the building is up for sale “When Wetherspoon’s purchased it two or three years back, it was with the sole intention of developing it into a pub, but the company have now decided not to proceed. “We do not wish to develop it now, and as a result we have placed the building up for sale.”
