Gala Bingo Salford brought a little bit of Christmas spirit to local residents last week, by hosting a special dinner and bingo evening in honour of those whose houses were damaged in the blast in Irlam on November 2. Residents were invited to attend an evening of free bingo and a complimentary Christmas feast organised by the club on Hankinson Way and City West Housing Trust in order to bring a bit of festive cheer to the local community. Members and staff of Gala Bingo Salford have been fundraising since the gas blast, holding table top collections for bingo regular Marie Burns who was seriously injured in the blast and is still recovering in hospital. Generous donations from Gala members and employees saw over £300 raised for Marie. However, the club wanted to do something to show their support for the whole community in the run up to Christmas.Organiser and club operations manager of Gala Bingo Salford, Joanne Parfitt, said: “With Christmas just around the corner we really wanted to do something special for those members of our local community whose houses were destroyed or damaged in November. As the weather is cold and miserable we wanted to cheer up Irlam residents with a slap up meal and a chance to win some of Gala Bingo’s fantastic jackpots in time for Christmas.” Irlam resident Sharon said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local community since the blast. I just want to say a special thank you to Gala Bingo Salford and the City West Housing Trust for putting on such a fantastic evening. I only wish I’d won the full house!” Joanne added: “It was a fantastic night and we are so glad so many of the Irlam residents came to enjoy it. We hope it got everyone in the Christmas spirit.”
