Building work has now started on a £6 million casino in Teesside. The former Netto supermarket is to be demolished to make way for the new casino which will sit nearby the Mecca Bingo club.

The Rank Group which is the parent company of both Mecca Bingo and the Grosvenor Casino brand expects to open this latest venue towards the end of the year. The two-storey development is expected to create around 75 full and part-time positions.

Rank is investing around £50 million nationwide in expanding the Grosvenor brand. The Stockton casino will operate under the company’s “G Casino” brand, which combines traditional casino gaming with food and drink, entertainment and community games like poker.

Planning permission for the site was granted by Stockton Council in November 2007 after the gaming giant withdraw its initial plans and resubmitted a revised plan.
