Competition has heated up as four companies have bid to run the Bath city casino. Plans which include a seven-storey entertainment complex could include not only a casino but also a hotel, shops, restaurant and bars. Leisure company Apollo has submitted the latest ambitious plans for the old Cattlemarket site in Walcott Street. The site is currently a car park owned by Bath and North East Somerset Council, and one of six areas earmarked as locations where a casino might be accepted by the authority. Gala Coral the parent company of Gala Casinos is also interested in the same site with plans to include an entrance from a new piazza area created in Walcot Street. The council also owns the other two sites. Great Eastern Quays Casino is targeting the former NHS clinic and the Gala Bingo Hall at Sawclose, and Grosvenor Casinos has plans for the Manvers Street car park. The council will start the process of deciding which firm is awarded the licence in a June meeting.
