As per our reports last week the Mecca Bingo club in Southampton will close its doors on the 4th May after it a Gospel Church made an unsolicited offer for the premises. The group plans to transform the site into a 1,000-capacity auditorium. While the amount that was paid for the premises is being kept a secret at this time the church group has big plans including a coffee shop, bookshop, childcare centre, youth facilities and adult day centre. A planning application has been lodged with Southampton City Council, although some residents’ groups are already preparing to object to the plans. Mecca claims that it intends to relocate to a larger, purpose built site. The gaming giant also has another Mecca Bingo club in Andover. The 855-capacity Mecca Bingo, which has 34,128 members on its books and hundreds of regular punters, will close on May 4 after 40 years and 18 staff are facing redundancy.
