888.com has come under fire from the ASA for an advert the company wasn’t even fully aware of. An advert banner on the social networking website, Facebook, was subject to just one complaint to the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) which made the decision to ban it.

The complainant challenged whether the advertisement, created by Online Media Solutions, was irresponsible as it played on addiction to encourage people to gamble.

The advertisement said "Addicted to slots? 888promos.com" and showed a picture of a fruit machine. The advert also claimed "Register in 888casino & get 7 spins every week for a whole year ABSOLUTELY FREE! Get the chance to win every day. No deposit necessary.

Cassava Enterprises, trading as 888.com, claimed that it had no knowledge of the advert prior to the communications from the ASA and that the agency. It added that it has told Online Media Solutions to ensure all future advertising material is submitted for approval.

Online bingo and casino adverts have come in conflict with the ASA on a regualr basis over the last 12 months.

Following the ASA upholding the complaint the advert may not be shown again in its current form.
