Trinity Mirror has reported a decline in digital sales as bingo revenues continue to decline. Even with advertising revenues up 13 percent Digital Sales still fell 9 percent overall for the first 17 weeks of the year.

The media giant has said that it “reflects continued declines in bingo revenue”.

In recent times as publishing companies have had to fight with declining revenues as readers switch to the internet for free news the industry has looked towards paid content to make up the shortfall and bingo has become major benefit. News International’s Sun Bingo is believed to contribute a significant amount to the publisher.

In the last few years there has been new bingo sites popping up on a near weekly basis and as a result the competition for players has never been as fierce. Initially bingo sites saw revenues sour during the early years of the industry as players tried the new online fad, however operators are doing all they can now just to maintain players and some of these actions are somewhat questionable!

According to the publisher they saw “bingo revenues declining due to increased competition and the impact of the recession”.
