After 315,000 players details were offered for sale from one of the top UK Online Bingo sites, other online bingo operators need to take steps to protect their players that may not know about the fact that their details maybe compromised. From an experiment we can see that players tend to use the same usernames and passwords and as such the list of players, which included usernames and passwords posses risks to other online gaming sites. Online operators are urged to take steps to promote players on their sites to now change their usernames and passwords to ensure that the accounts are not at risk of fraudulent activity. Having spoken to the online bingo operators whose customers are on the list of 3 million online gaming players, I was assured that their company is doing all it can in protecting its online players and safeguarding the industry from the damage that this could cause. Clearly while we don’t want to see this issue tarnish the online gaming industry players and operators need to act to reduce any risks associated with this data. The list of player’s data, of which I saw a sample of roughly 1,000 names from various online gaming companies, included: • Name, USERNAME and PASSWORD • Address • Email Address • Phone Number • Date of Registration • First Deposit • Last Deposit • Total Amount Deposited • Balance of Account • Balance of Bonus Account • VIP Status • Number of Deposits • Amount Lost • Revenue • Biggest Win • Where Referred From
