It is quite common these days for linked bingo games, especially online to reach life changing amounts of money, but could you imagine walking into a bingo club and playing for a six figure amount on an in house game where one of the people sitting with you is guaranteed to win the jackpot cash prize fund. No doubt bingo managers and gambling accountants’ will be rubbing their heads thinking how is that possible? Well it seems if you have a big enough bingo club and you charge enough for the bingo tickets you can afford to payout $1 million. The Foxwoods Resort Casino's 25th Anniversary Firecracker Bingo event was held on Saturday and Jennifer McKenzie won the $1 million jackpot. The event signals the start of casino gambling in Connecticut, when the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe opened a 1,200 seat bingo hall on its reservation on July 6, 1986. To date 19 million people have played at the venue and it is home to the countries larges bingo club with 3,500 seats. To take part in the bingo games players had to payout $500 per seat ticket!! Reports in the local media claim that there were several door gifts including a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette up for grabs. I suppose it beats offering a free box of chocolates or £5 off your bingo. While definitely a unique event I am pretty sure that the principle of bingo being a low stakes form of gambling was forgotten.
