An unemployed young man has been offered a job at a local Mecca Bingo club after putting up posters asking for work. The initiative came after he unsuccessfully applied for 300 jobs and felt that he had no chance of finding work. While he has now gained a job, he also has a fine to pay after the local council took exception to the idea. Daniel Bird, 20, put up the posters to appeal to local employees. While unconfirmed there is a good chance that the idea may have come from the Irishman that recently used his life savings to buy a rent a bill board to post his CV, and was subsequently offered a number of jobs. Having put up 200 notices around the town he now has to pay a £75 fine within 2 weeks or face legal action. Daniel used the posters to the feature his photos and contact details appealing for any bosses looking for staff to get in touch. Days later he had a phone call from the Mecca Bingo asking him to attend an interview. "The manager said he would like to interview me because I used my own initiative and he took me on the same night. I am really proud of that," Mr Bird told the local paper. While Daniel is obviously delighted to be employed after spending a year looking for work he is somewhat surprised by the actions of the council. He said: “I am really shocked by this. I am not some kind of criminal, I am just someone who was trying really hard to find a job. “You see posters all over the city for missing cats and dogs and things. “Everyone else is proud of me for doing this and being so proactive in looking for a job. “I had people speaking to me while I put the posters up saying: ‘Good on you for being so motivated.'” But Mark Charlton, assistant head of community safety at Hull City Council, said: “The council has an obligation to act to prevent unauthorised fly-posting. “We are satisfied the issuing of a fixed penalty notice in this case is a measured and appropriate response after requesting for Mr Bird to desist fly-posting on more than one occasion.”
