Customers and staff at the Rutherglen Mecca Bingo are celebrating after beating their annual fundraising target. The bingo club has managed to raise £1800 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. To reach their target the club has organised activities such as a sponsored bike ride and regular collections. Marie Curie Cancer Care employs more than 2700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, providing care to more than 31,000 terminally ill patients. The charity provides end-of-life care, totally free for patients in their own home. The general manager at the Mecca Bingo club, Wendy Buchan, commented: “We wanted to really go for it with our fundraising activity this year and raise as much as we could to support Marie Curie nurses. “We’ve had a great response from customers which has meant we’ve already raised such an impressive amount. “Our club’s fundraising success is a credit to the team members and the hard work they put in to ensure our events ran smoothly. I was especially impressed with the team’s efforts in the bicycle ride.” She added: “We hope to continue with our success and raise even more money for Marie Curie Cancer Care in the coming months.”
