A pensioner from Dundee is celebrating after winning a place in the Ultimate Bingo Championships in Gibraltar where she could scoop the £20,000 prize money and a trip to Las Vegas. Isobel O’ Rourke will join the other finalist in November after being crowned the regional winner at her local Gala Bingo club.

The 70 year added: "I couldn't believe it when I won the regional title — I still can't believe it," she said. "Gibraltar is somewhere I have always wanted to visit, so I am very excited about going."

Her fellow bingo players have offered messages of support to the pensioner for her big bingo forthcoming game. She added: "I never realised I had so many friends. People have been coming up and congratulating me and wishing me well."

One lucky winner of the Ultimate Bingo Championship will scoop £20,000 and holiday of a lifetime to Las Vegas. Mrs O’Rourke is looking forward to the opportunity to take part but is realistic about her chances.

"I think if I won you would have to pick me up off the floor — I am not that lucky!" she continued. "But you have to be in it to win, so I have just as much chance as anyone else."

Mrs O’Rourke said that bingo is a big part of her life and has been very rewarding in different ways. "It's a place you can go on your own and enjoy," she added. "I have met so many different friends through it."

When she was questioned about what she would do if she won the jackpot she claimed: "It would mean I could pay for my holidays instead of trying to win them!"

Isobel will be taking along a close friend on the three-day trip who will get to see the attractions and provide support.
