Mecca Bingo staff are being given the opportunity to test their entrepreneurial skills in a bid to raise money for charity. While normally in fundraising attempts people are asked to give money, however Mecca Bingo is taking a somewhat different approach and is giving staff £50 and asking them to turn the money into more money as part of commitment to raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Staff were asked to sign up to the 50/50 Challenge which is running in Mecca Bingo clubs in the UK on 10th – 11th November. This year the bingo giant is celebrating its 50th birthday and all things seem to be related to the number 50. Staff that have signed up are being given £50 and asked to raise as much money as possible within 50 hours which will be added to the charity fund. The Mecca Bingo general manager at Scarborough, Tim Stobart, commented: “We are asking team members to channel their business acumen and come up with some money-making ideas to generate as much profit as they can from £50. “Ideas suggested so far include sponsored leg waxes for men, holding a jumble sale and organising a special charity game in the club. In fact, there are so many ideas being talked about that it should prove to be a hectic but fun two days.” Cheryl Barret, Marie Curie Cancer Care community fundraiser, added: “Thinking of different ways to fundraise can be quite challenging and we’re always looking to do something that stands out from the crowd. The 50/50 Challenge is an innovative way to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and we hope the team members have great fun whilst doing so.” Marie Curie Cancer Care provides free home nursing care and support for terminally ill people and their families.
