The Palace Bingo and Social Club in Flint has closed amid rumours last week that this was down to dwindling customers. The Rhyl-based owners Parker’s Leisure are yet to release a statement and it seems that while there has been no activity in the Grade II listed site for the last two weeks, JD Wetherspoon may be looking to take over the venue. Ian Roberts the Flint Castle councillor suggested there had been no signs of life for the last two weeks at the hall which had previously served as the Plaza cinema before being converted to a bingo hall 34 years ago. It is the only building in Flint that is listed inside and outside and he hoped that the building which is the largest in Flint could be put to good use. Eddie Gershon, national spokesman for JD Wetherspoon, confirmed the company was looking at a fourth pub in Flintshire: “I can confirm that Wetherspoon’s is looking in Flint and keen to open a pub in the town. However, at this stage, we won’t comment on individual sites.” Flint councillor Alex Aldridge said he would ‘warmly welcome’ Wetherspoon’s to Flint if they were to decide the site was the right one to invest in. Wetherspoon’s operates pubs in Mold, Holywell and Shotton and a new venue generally results in 40 permanent jobs.
