Staff and players at the Mecca Bingo club in Wishaw have managed to raise nearly £1900 towards the company charity – Marie Curie Cancer Care. Mecca Bingo have committed as a company to raise as much money as possible for the charity which provides end of life care to terminally ill patients in their own homes, or in one of our nine hospices. Activities at the Wishaw Mecca Club included a charity night during the summer which raised over £1,400 alone. The club took over a nearby venue and a DJ offered his services free of charge, while customers played a host of different games in addition to bingo, as well as taking part in a raffle. The general manager Julie Holderness of the club commented: “Our club’s fundraising success is a credit to the team members and the hard work they’ve put in to ensuring our events run smoothly. “The charity night during the summer was a fantastic success and it was great that we got support from a local DJ, who offered his services free of charge. “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our customers who have generously supported the team’s endeavours over the year and enabled us to raise nearly £1900. “Every £20 we have raised will provide an hour of Marie Curie nursing care in Wishaw so it’s great to be able to make a difference at a local level.” Mecca Bingo aims to raise £200,000 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care this year, which will pay for 10,000 hours of home nursing care.
