The Palace Bingo and Social Club which closed just before Christmas has ben put up for sale for £250,000. The former Plaza Cinema in Flint is reportedly on the list of buildings that JD Wetherspoons is interested in developing. The building has seen the last of its bingo and cinema days, and the Rhyl-based owners will be keen to see the building put to a new use as soon as possible. Wetherspoon’s, which operates 3 other pubs in the area (Mold, Shotton and Holywell) has confirmed it wants to move to the town and open a fourth pub in Flintshire, but would not comment on whether it had the Grade II-listed venue in mind. Eddie Gershon, a spokesperson for the pub chain, added: “Wetherspoon’s is looking in Flint and keen to open a pub in the town. However, at this stage, we won’t comment on individual sites.” Weatherspoon creates around 40 new jobs with every new site that it opens. Flint councillor Ian Roberts told the local paper that he hoped the old Plaza building could be put to a good use. It is the only building in Flint listed both inside and outside. Rhyl-based property consultants, Gareth Williams Commercial are marketing the 6260sq ft property as an ‘occupier or development opportunity’.
