A former bingo club and cinema in Wallsend could be redeveloped into a residential site with 33 homes if a development company gets support for their plans. Isos Developments is hoping to create 33 homes on the site, at the junction of High Street East, Coronation Street and Park Road in Wallsend. Isos, the Newcastle-based developer has made an application to North Tyneside Council for planning consent for three terraced houses and 30 flats built upto four storeys high. An objection to the development has been submitted along with a petition of more than 50 signatures. Objections relate to the parking problems current faced by residents which would increase under such a plan. However the developers will no doubt argue as a bingo club parking would have been a bigger issue to the residents. They also express concerns about privacy and access for refuse wagons. Fears have also been raised about potential contamination of land as a garage would also have to be knocked down as part of the development. A planning meeting to decide the outcome of the application is expected in the next few weeks.
