Bingo reports are expected today as the government will be discussing the finance bill to put through the changes that were announced in the last budget. High up on the political agenda is the bingo duty rise from 15 percent to 22 percent that has created a revolt between the Government and the bingo industry. Last week, bingo leaders staged a protest outside the houses of Parliament and have inundated MPs with letters of discontent. Three amendments to the finance bill have now been put forward by a labour back bencher and these are getting support from other MPs, further amendments are also being put forward and backed up. The bingo industry is hoping that the treasury will reconsider the tax increase as some of the figures they relied on were inaccurate and they may have unintentionally set the tax rate too high and hopefully will make amends. If the tax rate is reduced, this will stabilise the industry and further investment will be put into bingo clubs across the UK. This will also safeguard the jobs of around 17,000 bingo personnel and the bingo clubs can continue its important part that it plays in the communities of most towns and cities in the UK. Bingo Supermarket will no doubt have the latest news as it emerges.
