After numerous protests and lobbying of MPs from the bingo industry, the issue of bingo taxation will be discussed this Thursday in the House of commons.
Roger Cooper, an independent Bingo operator and a board member of the Bingo Association has been campaigning for a change in the current level of 22 percent down to 15 percent to bring the rate in line with the rest of the UK gambling industry.
It is hoped that the increased awareness will be highlighted and changes will be made in the pre budget hearing.
The industry are preparing to raise the issue of taxation strategically just prior to the election. Bingo Managers are exploring the possibility of standing against their own MPs within some organisations and the campaign is expected to gather momentum in February 2010. It is hopeful that the industry will not have to resort to this level of campaigning and the Government will reconsider their position on Bingo tax. |
