Yesterday Bingo Supermarket exclusively reported that the Riva Bingo club in Bristol was going through a consultation period of thirty days that may result in the club being closed down. Unfortunately today it is reported that the Riva Bingo club in Aberdeen is facing the same period of uncertainty. Riva Gaming used to have 13 bingo clubs up until a few weeks ago when it was split in two, with half the company being aquired br Brian Mattingley. Simon Hannah retained 7 clubs but this latest news may reduce the company to just 5 clubs. The remaining bingo clubs are not under threat at this moment but as the tax implications from the Government deepen, the company could face financial ruin.
The recent tax changes to bingo could force many bingo clubs to close although the government remain defiant that the bingo industry is revenue neutral under the new tax rulings. However Bingo Supermarket explains that since the new tax is a gross profits tax and VAT was essentially a net tax, this means any club with a high turnover but with high costs cannot make tax reclaims as they could before and all the profit plus more is swallowed up in taxation. Riva Bingo had a plan so stabalise the company after the split and ambitions to take the company forward after confidence was resurrected. Along came the budget announcement and now the company is depending on a tax review form the government.
