Mecca Bingo have urged their General Managers to lobby their MPs over the 22% gross profits tax that was applied to bingo clubs in the recent budget announcement. Mecca Bingo have already been successful in taking the Government to court over the VAT issue that has since been scrapped. Tristan Allison General Manager at the Mecca Bingo in Bradford is quoted in the press as saying "Putting bingo duty up to 22 percent is a backlash from the Treasury after Mecca had taken them to court ".
Bingosupermarket have published recent press releases about how the taxation in the gambling sector is unbalanced with bookmakers still only liable for 15 percent. Bingo is also see by the Department of Culture and Media as "playing an important role in the community". So far two press releases have already been published by newspapers in Bradford and Exeter as Mecca Bingo are inviting customers and mangers to get involved and lobby local MPs to address this unfair tax regime.
