Online bingo in Italy has been allowed to go ahead but the future is still not certain until after 23rd March 2010.  In December 2009, it was ruled that online bingo was allowed to take place.  An article printed in the EGR magazine confirmed the region court of Lazio that the decree allowing online bingo was not compliant with the formailities of Italian law.

The suspension of online bingo was ordered last month but the court of appeal has now overturned the suspension allowing online bingo to carry on until the hearing takes place on 23rd March 2010.

Online bingo in Italiy has been met with firce opposition from the minor operators who are in fear of losing out on revenues in the land based clubs.  Italy has the biggest gaming market in Europe and leading Italian bingo operator Gioco Digitale banked revenues of around 6m Euros in the first few months it was able to trade.

The recent reprieve will be welcomed too by other operators including Playtech and Party Gaming who are believed to have already made substantial investments in delivering online bingo into the Italian gaming marketplace.

This years bingo summit which is due to take place in June will be discussing the Italian market during the course of the two day conference held in London.  Bingo Supermarket will be in attendance at the event and will be in a position to deliver a much more in-depth report later on in the year.
